About Susan Raab

Best-selling author and award-winning writer Susan Raab is the creative force behind hundreds of non-fiction titles. As an executive, founder and designer, she’s brought Clear Content to corporations like Sony, Microsoft and McGraw-Hill as well as associations, entrepreneurs, authors and self-publishers.

Susan’s passion for communication emerged early in life. She was an avid reader and fair writer before she even entered kindergarten.

As an adult she was drawn to the technology that changed the way ideas are packaged and delivered forever. From the earliest personal computer software, through the emergence of word processing and desktop publishing, to web site development and content management tools, Susan found and worked for the leading software developers. A master at producing engaging content, she founded Content Wheel in 2005 to put that power to use proliferating good ideas.

In both the Personal Computer and Internet revolutions, Susan worked with founders of fast-growing software companies to develop their information strategies for promotion and customer education. As a founder of the first mail-order catalog of third-party products for Macintosh, she helped a hundred enthusiastic entrepreneurs position their products in the growing market. As the publications director for Digital Research, NetObjects and Savi Technology, she helped define effective corporate goals for educational products and programs.

While at NetObjects, a pioneer in web site development software, Susan saw how the leading sites were differentiating their content with style and attitude. Working closely with the marketing team, she helped design a brand voice for NetObjects, and oversaw its implementation throughout all its sites, manuals and training programs. She uses these same processes to create brand voice for her clients today.

At NetObjects, Susan also shaped the customer experience, designing content-rich educational web sites and the “Out of the box experience” (OOBE) for retail and enterprise software. Susan was first charged with packaging and OOBE design for dozens of products at Digital Research, one of the first personal computer software companies. She also designed MindWrite, the first word processor with integrated outlining for the Macintosh, and the first version of WinScore, a standardized test-scoring program for CTB McGraw-Hill that reduced manual quality assurance processes by 90%.

Susan has “deep pockets” of content development and production experience, such as leading a staff of 40 writers, editors and artists producing 30 printed titles per quarter. She excels at coaching and developing writers and editors, and has traveled as far as Singapore to train them. The broad diversity of projects, organizations and situations she has worked with give her the flexibility to help her clients get exactly they want from their investment in promotional and educational content.

But Susan is most proud of the engaging content she and her teams have created. She is probably the only person you’ll ever know who put a plot and characters in a technical manual and won prizes for it at the international level. She delights in watching the Build It Big series inspire direct sellers worldwide, knowing her information design plays a key role in creating those best-selling connections. Although she profoundly enjoys her cliff-top home in Carmel, California, step aerobics and her meditation practice, her favorite dream is still to make your most inspiring ideas roll into the mind of your audience without friction, static or interference, and engage their attention, action and delight.
